When You No Longer Live Together as a Family
If you have a child with another person, you both have rights and responsibilities to the child. This includes having the right to spend time with the child and be involved in decisions about the child’s life. If you and the child’s other parent are no longer living together, you both need to decide how these rights and responsibilities will continue when you no longer live together as a family. The legal terms for these rights and responsibilities are “custody” and “access".
Domestic violence is violence or other abuse in a domestic setting, such as in marriage or cohabitation. Domestic Violence can also involve violence against children, parents, or the elderly. It takes a number of forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, economic, religious and sexual abuse, which can range from subtle, coercive forms to marital rape and to violent physical abuse.
COVID 19 Movement restrictions aimed to stop the spread of the coronavirus may be making violence in homes more frequent, more severe and more dangerous.
